A-Z Rack Inspections Ltd

An expert racking inspection needs to be carried out by a 'technically competent person' at least once every 12 months. This recommendation has been made by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) within HSG76, which was designed as a collaboration between HSE and the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) to align health and safety standards.

At A-Z Rack Inspections Ltd, our experienced SEMA Approved Racking Inspectors (SARI) have achieved their status by going through an extensive and intensive course that covers every aspect of pallet racking and shelving inspections. This course entailed lengthy study, written examinations, and practical assessments, all of which needed to be passed to a high standard before the accreditation was awarded. Furthermore, all SARIs have to undertake continuous professional development to maintain their accreditation on an annual basis, failure to reach the required level results in the accreditation lapsing and the SARI having to undertake further training to receive SEMA approval. This ensures that SARIs remain current with legislation and are proficient in industry best practices. Finally, SARIs receive random assessments, and a selection of SARIs across the country are selected for scrutiny by the SEMA technical committee. This takes the form of submission of reports for investigation, and in the event of poor reports, on-site assessments are undertaken to ensure that the highest standards of rack inspections are consistently maintained.

As part of HSG76, HSE states that 'business owners should never make assumptions about the competence or reliability of any person handling, installing, or inspecting their racking.’ It is the business owner’s responsibility to be certain that the person inspecting their racking is the right person for the job. As such, using a SEMA Approved racking inspector (SARI) who has obtained a qualification recognised by the HSE is the best way to ensure that these requirements under law are met. This guarantees that the best quality expert rack inspection has been conducted at your premises and demonstrates the ‘due diligence required for this area of your health and safety responsibilities.

Please be aware that many companies claim to have personnel trained to SEMA standards that can inspect your racking however, this does not necessarily mean you are dealing with a SARI, as they may have only completed a basic rack awareness course. Check the person completing your inspection is a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector, either by verification on the SEMA website or by asking to see their ID card.
