Who Should Carry Out a Racking Inspection?
A-Z Rack Inspections Ltd
An expert racking inspection should be performed by a 'technically competent person' at least once every 12 months, as recommended by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) within HSG76. This guideline, created in collaboration with the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA), aims to uphold strict health and safety standards across the industry.
At A-Z Rack Inspections Ltd, our team of SEMA Approved Racking Inspectors (SARI) are highly qualified professionals who have undergone an extensive and intensive certification process. This rigorous course covers every aspect of pallet racking and warehouse shelving inspections. To become a SARI, our inspectors must pass comprehensive written exams, practical assessments, and ongoing continuous professional development to ensure their skills remain current and compliant with evolving legislation.
In addition, all SARIs are subject to random assessments by the SEMA technical committee. This includes the submission of inspection reports for review, and in cases where standards are questioned, on-site assessments are conducted to maintain consistent high-quality rack safety inspections.
According to HSG76, the HSE advises that 'business owners should never make assumptions about the competence or reliability of any person handling, installing, or inspecting their racking.' It is the responsibility of the business owner to ensure that the individual inspecting their warehouse racking is fully qualified. By choosing a SEMA Approved Racking Inspector (SARI), you can be confident that your racking inspections are conducted by experts recognised by the HSE. This ensures compliance with safety regulations and demonstrates the due diligence required to meet your legal health and safety responsibilities.
Please note that some companies claim to have personnel trained to SEMA standards, but this does not necessarily mean you are working with a qualified SEMA Approved Racking Inspector. Some individuals may have only completed a basic rack awareness course. To ensure you are working with a qualified SARI, verify their credentials either on the SEMA website or by asking to see their official ID card.
